Nitish Kumar wins floor test in Bihar

Nitish Kumar wins floor test in Bihar; Modi-led NDA goes strong in 18 Indian states

Sailing through the trust vote with 131 votes, Nitish Kumar is back being the ‘king’ of the Bihar.

Nitish Kumar wins floor test in Bihar; Modi-led NDA goes strong in 18 Indian states

‘Secularism can’t mask corruption,” said the Chief Minister in the Bihar Assembly with Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Modi by his side.

“These are arrogant people. Political parties get a mandate in elections to serve the people. The people are fed-up,” added Nitish.

Last 48-hours, Bihar witnessed some fast-paced and stunning developments that has changed the political scenario of the country.

It all started on Thursday evening.

Alleging corruption charges against Tejashwi Yadav, Nitish tendered his resignation and dissolved the 20-month-old mahagathbandhan or grand alliance between JD(U) and RJD. Within hours, JD (U) formed a new coalition with old ally BJP and Nitish headed back to office, claiming support of 132 MLAs in a letter to Bihar governor Keshari Nath Tripathi.

In 2013, Nitish had ended his 17-year alliance with the BJP over the party’s decision to name Narendra Modi its Prime Ministerial candidate.

Nitish’s decision to side with BJP has not gone down well with several party members. JD (U) stalwart Sharad Pawar is reportedly miffed with the new development while MP Ali Anwar openly expressed his dissatisfaction.

Today morning, Nitish moved the confidence motion to prove majority of his new government amid scathing attacks from various counters. In the 243-member Bihar Assembly, 131 legislators voted in favour of the new alliance and 108 against.

RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav argued that former his former ‘boss’ Nitish Kumar should have shown guts and sacked him rather than joining hands with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Aapko sharam nahin aayi? (Aren’t you ashamed?),”asked Tejashwi.

Today morning, Patna High Court accepted RJD’s petition challenging the appointment of Nitish as Chief Minister. However, the court refused to stop today’s trust vote, saying it would hear the case on Monday, 31 July.

JD (U)’s new alliance with BJP has changed significantly changed the political discourse of the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA now holds the power in 18 states throwing Congress out of the national equation. This, in turn, will have some significant bearing upcoming state elections and 2019 Lok Sabha election.

Bihar’s political upheaval has only confirmed the notion of BJP’s saffron wave engulfing the entire nation.

Saw Jain giving Rs 2 cr to Kejriwal, alleges Mishra

SAW JAIN GIVING RS 2 CR TO KEJRIWAL, ALLEGES MISHRA; SISODIA REFUTES CHARGES

Kapil Mishra

Sacked Delhi minister Kapil Mishra today accused Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of taking Rs 2 crore from his cabinet colleague, a charge refuted by Deputy CM Manish Sisodia.

The allegation by Mishra, who was sacked from the AAP dispensation last night, came amid growing rumblings in the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

Mishra, whose surprise sacking came days after he sided with senior party leader Kumar Vishwas who has been at loggerheads with the AAP leadership, said he has given a statement to Lt Governor Anil Baijal regarding various irregularities seen by him during his two-year stint as a Cabinet minister in the Kejriwal government.

“I saw with my own eyes Satyendar Jain giving Rs 2 crore in cash to Arvind Kejriwal at his residence. When I asked Kejriwal, he said such things happen in politics and it will be revealed later,” Mishra told reporters after paying homage to Mahatma Gandhi at his memorial at Rajghat here.

He also alleged that Jain, the Health and PWD minister in AAP government, told him “personally” that he had “settled a land deal of Kejriwal’s relative”.

“Jain personally told me that he had settled a land deal worth Rs 50 crore of Kejriwal’s relative. When I told Kejriwal, he said that it was a lie and asked me to have faith in him.”

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said the allegations of corruption leveled by Mishra did not merit a response.

“His allegations do not merit a response. He has been sacked due to poor performance,” Sisodia told reporters.

“The allegations are so absurd and there are no facts,” he added.

However, Mishra claimed that he was removed after he put pressure on the party leaders over matters of “corruption” that have been taking rounds for quite some time.

“I want to ask if it was so, why did not Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia say it earlier. If they were fooling people when they were talking about work done by their government in developing water supply in the city,” the former Delhi Water minister said.

For a long time, talks about different types of “corruption” involving fundings, Punjab elections and Delhi government have been making rounds, he said.

“I saw some of it with my own eyes but I believed in Kejriwal and felt no one can corrupt him. The cases of money laundering, black money and appointment of daughter of a minister (Jain), luxury bus scheme, CNG fitness test scam, all these were in his knowledge and I always believed he will take action.”

He asserted that he will fight “corruption” while remaining in the AAP and no one can throw him out from the party.

“AAP is my party, no one can throw me out of the party. We will sweep corruption away from the party and I have come here (Rajghat) to begin this work,” he said.

Mishra asserted his honesty saying he was a minister in the Kejriwal government for two years but faced no corruption charges.

“I am the only minister in Kejriwal government who has no corruption cases against him and who is facing no CBI or ACB probe and who has not appointed his daughter or relative on any post,” he said.

Yogi Adityanath

It seems UP CM wants to send a clear message that laxity in enforcing law and order will not be tolerated.

Since the new government led by BJP’s firebrand leader Yogi Adityanath assumed office, Uttar Pradesh police has suspended over 100 policemen so far.

Most of these suspensions were in Ghaziabad, Meerut and Noida.

In Lucknow, seven inspectors have been suspended.

The crackdown followed directives issued by DGP Javeed Ahmed a few days back to identify the “black sheep” among the policemen.

PRO UP Police, Rahul Srivastava, said, “More than 100 policemen, mostly constables, have been suspended as per the directives of the DGP to identify the black sheep and take exemplary action against them.”

The directive was issued to all the Superintendents of Police through video conferencing by the state police chief and Principal Secretary (Home) Debashish Panda hours after Yogi Adityanath assumed office.

Bhopal-Ujjain train blast: MP CM makes shocking revelations, says Islamic State agents used pipe bomb, sent pictures to Syria

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan claimed on Wednesday that that three Islamic State operatives had placed the pipe bomb in the 59320 Bhopal-Ujjain trainand sent picturs of the same to Syria.

Speaking to ANI here, Chouhan further informed that the three terrorists, who hailed from Kanpur and Kannauj, had made plans to rush back to Lucknow once their nefarious plans to set off the bomb had come through.

“The explosives recovered from them had inscriptions on it saying `ISIS- we are in India`. The terrorists even uploaded the picture of the pipe bomb they had placed in the train and the then sent it to Syria. So it`s proof that they were related to ISIS,” he said.

The Chief Minister also revealed that the terrorists had learned the mechanism of making a bomb on the internet and then trained to carry out the explosion.
“They had placed the timer of the bomb in such a way that it explodes in two hours. Fortunately the pipe bomb was placed in an upper berth, which significantly reduced the damage and loss of lives in the attack. Our ATS was in constant touch with central agencies and nabbed them. Ateef Mazaffar was their mastermind and Mohammad Danish and Sayyed Mir Hussain were also caught,” he added.
Hailing the Madhya Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) for the nabbing the accused so quickly, Chouhan also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his vigilance in ensuring there was smooth coordination between the state and central agencies.

Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh`s Inspector General (IG) of Police, Law and order Makrand Devaskar has confirmed the explosion, which took place in Bhopal-Ujjain passenger train in Shajapur district yesterday, was a terrorist attack.

“It was an IED blast and IED blasts are always terrorist attacks. The police have arrested three persons from Pipariya,” Devaskar said.

At least nine people were injured after the explosion. Taking cognizance of the matter, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Bhupendra Singh said that an investigation has been initiated into the matter.”

All officers already reached the spot and at least nine are injured in which two are critical. The investigation is on and according to initial reports there is an odor of gun powder.” Singh told ANI.

“Injured passengers are admitted to Kalapipal government hospital and a medical team is also sent to the location,” said Bhopal Division of Indian Railways PRO, IA Siddiqui.

The guard of Bhopal-Ujjain passenger train informed the passengers at 9.50 am about the explosion that took place ahead of guard coach, next to front of sleeper class, while the train was on run in block section between the Jabdi and Kalapipal stations.

Vijay Rupani to be new Gujarat CM, Nitin Patel will be Deputy CM

Vijay Rupani to be new Gujarat CM, Nitin Patel will be Deputy CM

Vijay Rupani to be new Gujarat CM, Nitin Patel will be Deputy CM

The Bharatiya Janata Party leadership on Friday named state party presidentVijay Rupani as Gujarat’s new Chief Minister, while Nitin Patel will be the deputy chief minister.

Earlier, reports had said that Nitin Patel, the senior-most minister in the Anandiben Patel Cabinet, would take over as the Gujarat CM from her.

Rupani emerged as the choice for the top slot at the legislature party meeting attended by BJP chief Amit Shah and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.

After the meeting, Gadkari announced that Rupani would be the new Chief Minister of Gujarat.

Rupani would be tasked with leading the party in the Assembly polls due next year, overcoming the multiple challenges faced by it in the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Anandiben Patel announced her decision to resign through a Facebook post last week, saying she thought it fit to step down since as she will turn 75 this November, the age cap set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the central and the state ministries.

BJP president Amit Shah has since yesterday held deliberations with party leaders to finalise the candidate.

BJP’s parliamentary board accepted Anandiben Patel’s offer to resign on Monday at its meeting in Delhi, setting in motion the process of choosing the new Chief Minister.

The BJP, in power in Gujarat for long, has been facing grim challenges like Patel quota stir and Dalit unrest in the wake of widely condemned Dalit flogging incident in Una apart from reversals in rural areas in civic polls, which together seem to have dented its image and support base, prompting Aanandiben to quit.

HC says Delhi govt can’t challenge LG’s powers

HC says Delhi govt can’t challenge LG’s powers

Huge setback for Kejriwal: HC says Delhi govt can't challenge LG's powers

In a big setback to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is engaged in a bitter power struggle with the Centre, the Delhi High Court on Thursday ruled that the Lieutenant Governor is not bound to act as per the advise of the state cabinet.

Ruling in favour of the central government, the high court made it very clear that policing, law and order will remain with the Centre.

The high court passed the order in connection with the ongoing legal wrangling between the Delhi Government and the Centre over control of administrative issues and distribution of power in the national capital.

Delhi High Court further said that the ”Council of Ministers cannot take decision without referring to Lt Governor first.”

Article 239 continues to remain applicable and that makes Delhi a Union territory, the High Court said in its order.

High Court held that no action can be taken by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) against central government officials.

We will approach the apex court, the Delhi government said minutes after the devastating high court ruling.

The High Court pronounces the verdict on a set of 11 petitions challenging various decisions of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led-Delhi Government and Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, and the interpretation of Article 239 AA of the Constitution.

It has been alleged by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal-led Government that it has been unable to function as most of its decisions are either annulled or changed by the Centre at the behest of the Lieutenant Governor on the ground that Delhi is not a complete state.

On May 24, the High Court had reserved its verdict on the plea of the Delhi Government seeking a stay on the proceedings on the petitions arising out of its standoff with the Lieutenant Governor over powers to appoint bureaucrats in the national capital and other issues.

Mumbai-Goa highway bridge collapse: 2 dead, 44 missing; CM reviews rescue ops, Opposition seeks probe

A British era bridge on the Mumbai-Goa National Highway collapsed in the wee hours of Wednesday due to excessive rains in the Konkan region in Maharashtra.

Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis also arrived at the bridge collapse site to review the relief and rescue work.Mumbai-Goa bridge collapse: Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis at the spot.

The rescuers have recovered two dead bodies from the overflowing Savitri river and a massive search is on for others who are missing, Raigad Collector Sheetal Ugale had confirmed.

At least 44 people, two buses and several other vehicles went missing near Mahad city after the bridge, more than seven decades old and a critical link to the Mumbai-Goa National Highway, crashed around 1 am due to the flood waters rushing into the river.

Two state transport buses with 11 passengers each are also missing and there was no contact with either their drivers or the passengers, Raigad Collector Sheetal Ugale said.

Since the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation buses, which started from Mumbai, did not arrive at their scheduled Mahad depot, Ugale appealed people to get in touch with the concerned authorities about their missing relatives. Locals said that around five to six private vehicles were also missing and they were feared to be washed away in the floods.

The ICG has meanwhile pressed Chetak Helicopters into search operations for tracing missing vehicles. Sea king 42C all weather aircraft with diving team has also been pressed into service by the Indian Navy. A massive search operation have been initiated, Ugale confirmed

“The bridge was built during the British era. After discussion with the National Highways Authority, we have shifted traffic to the new parallel bridge nearby. We are trying to confirm reports of other missing vehicles,” Ugale said.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today informed Lok Sabha that 4 NDRF teams comprising 115 personnel including divers along with 12 boats were immediately rushed to Maharashtra bridge collapse site. Centre stands with Maharashtra government in this hour of crisis and assures all possible help, Singh added.

Meanwhile, the Opposition in Maharashtra Legislative Assembly today sought a judicial probe into the Mahad bridge collapse tragedy. Raising the issue in the Assembly, former CM Prithviraj Chavan said a judicial probe should be conducted and action taken against those guilty of allowing the old bridge to remain open for traffic.

A case of IPC 302 should also be filed against PWD minister Chandrakant Patil, he added.

Meanwhile, a 45-member National Disaster Response Force team has reached Raigad from Pune to assist in the rescue operations.

Maharashtra CM Fadnavis said that PM Narendra Modi had called him in the morning and assured all help from Centre. NDRF teams have reached and carrying out search operations, the Maharashtra CM added.

As of now we have reports of two state transport buses missing with 22 people onboard, Fadnavis said. He also added that primary reason seems to be high pressure caused due to flooding of river Savitri as heavy rains continue to lash the catchment of Mahabaleshwar.

Raigad Collector also confirmed that one way traffic has now resumed on the new bridge, he added.

Incessant rains continue to lash the coastal Konkan, northern and western Maharashtra since past five days.
